Species of Souss-Massa National Park

Discover the resilient life forms that inhabit one of Morocco's most biodiverse protected areas, from critically endangered birds to reintroduced Saharan antelope and endemic Atlantic flora.

A Biodiversity Hotspot

Where Africa, Europe & the Atlantic Converge

Souss-Massa National Park sits at a unique biogeographic crossroads. The cold Canary Current offshore, the semi-arid Anti-Atlas hinterland, and the tidal estuaries of Oued Souss and Oued Massa create an extraordinary mosaic of habitats within just 33,800 hectares.

This convergence supports an exceptionally diverse community of species, many of them at the very edge of their global range. The park is home to the last significant wild breeding colony of the Northern Bald Ibis, one of the world's rarest birds, alongside reintroduced Saharan ungulates that had been driven to extinction across their former range.
